This broth, in particular, comes from the Medical Medium recipe bank and can be used as a clean and hearty soup before draining out the veggies used. I follow the Medical Medium protocols and recipes as part of my doctor-approved plan to fight chronic conditions and symptoms (talk to your doctor for your own plan). You can find many more recipes and ways to use this broth on the Medical Medium website.

Why Oil-Free?

Check out my post on why and how cooking without oil can be a significant health benefit. Lowering fat can help our bodies heal, improve heart health and digestion, and help with weight loss.

Why Not Use Store-Bought Broth?

Check out the ingredients in most store-bought broth, and you will see unhealthy and unnecessary ingredients such as “natural flavors” (anything but natural; usually preservatives), oils, and MSG. Taking the time to make your own is less expensive in the short and long term, as it is better for your health.

This healing broth by Medical Medium is full of nutrients and flavor, is easy to digest, and works as a soup, a sipping broth, or an oil substitute in your favorite recipes.

Ingredients

  • 4 carrots, chopped or 1 sweet potato cubed

  • 2 stalks celery, roughly chopped

  • 2 onions sliced

  • 1 cup finely chopped parsley

  • 1 cup shiitake mushrooms, fresh or dried (optional)*

  • 2 tomatoes, chopped (optional)

  • 1 medium bulb garlic (about 8 cloves) minced

  • 1-inch piece of fresh ginger, finely sliced, minced, or grated

  • 1-inch piece of fresh turmeric, finely sliced, minced or grated

  • 8 cups water

  • 1 ripe hot pepper or 1/2 teaspoon red pepper flakes, or more to taste (optional)

Directions

  • Place all the ingredients in a large pot and bring to a gentle boil. Turn the heat down to low and allow to simmer for about 1 hour. Strain and sip for a mineral-rich, healing, and restorative broth. It can also be used in any recipe calling for broth or as a soup before straining.

Notes

  • *If using fresh mushrooms, wash and rinse thoroughly with warm to hot water. Do not use slimy or decaying mushrooms. That’s a sign of oxidizing and aging. For more info and FAQs on broth see source: https://www.medicalmedium.com/mm101/medical-medium-healing-broth.htm
